Whether you are planning on giving your home a coat of paint in preparation for putting it on the market, or giving your home a fresh look to enhance your long-term occupancy plans, we thought you might be interested in finding out what the experts are saying about the paint colour trends that are expected to make an impact in the coming year.
According to the experts at Dulux, there are four main colour trends that renovators and decorators need to consider in 2020. As is always the case, your final choices will depend on the overall direction that you want to achieve.
Uncomplicated simplicity. If you favour a ‘less-is-more’ approach, soft neutral tonings that work well with natural materials and textures could be the direction for you. Dulux refers to this as the ‘grounded’ approach, using all sorts of soft stone and tan colours, along with muted terracotta and blushes.
The world is going green. In keeping with the natural emphasis above, green is a colour that is topped to have a real impact this year. The gentle layering of greens (as pictured) can reinforce our connection to nature and has an ambience that is soothing and restful.
Highlights of blue. Working alongside the use of green mentioned above, blue shades are expected to be popular when used as a highlight rather than on a larger scale. The use of blue and coffee colours is also recommended when your décor blends vintage elements with a contemporary design.
An air of decadence. Working closely with the interior design trend towards luxurious fabrics like velvet and chenille, you can expect to see rich reds and violets appearing as a colour trend this year.
Taking all of the above into consideration, it is important to remember that it is always best to seek experienced professional advice about redecorating you home if you plan to sell it in the near future. You may find that your property is actually more marketable in its current condition without spending the time and money on a paint job.
