For some people the mention of a ‘budget-priced facelift’ is likely to cause immediate flashbacks to stories of plastic surgery gone wrong, and extended stays in dodgy overseas hospitals! However, for anyone who is keen to give their home a bit of a freshen up over the coming holiday period, the good news is that there are several ways to give the interior of your home a quick and easy facelift without breaking the budget
For example:
- Paint one wall
You don’t have to paint the entire interior of your home, or even one full room for that matter, to give your home a fresh look. In many situations, painting a single wall with a contrasting colour can create a feature that makes a real impact.
- Weigh up your paint options
If you do decide to pursue the single wall option, you might consider ‘thinking outside the box’ on what paint to use. For example, if you are looking at a child’s bedroom, perhaps creating a chalkboard wall could be one way to expand your kids’ artistic streak. In a living area, consider a feature colour that highlights a colour in your furnishings. You might even look at using a metallic paint for extra sparkle, although matte paint is also very popular at the moment, so it’s hard to go wrong.
- Small areas can make a big impact
If you want to freshen up your bathroom tiles, don’t forget that you don’t have to tile the whole room. Tiling half a wall, or just one wall panel, can often make more impact than doing the whole room.
- The power of paper
Wallpapers have enjoyed quite a resurgence in popularity in recent years, but wallpapering large areas can be expensive, (not to mention requiring patience and skill to apply well). Nowadays there are other options, as far as smaller wallpaper panels that are also removable, (important if you are renting).
- When there’s no wall at all
Last, but not least, if you’re keen to break up the space of neutral walls, one simple way to do this is through your window furnishings.
Keep in mind that if you are considering changing your décor as part of preparing your property for sale, it might be wise to talk to one of the team at Ian Reid Vendor Advocates before you start. After all, there’s no point in spending money on changes if they are not going to make a difference to your eventual buyers.
