help for the executor

Help when you’re an Executor

Author: Ben Reid - Manager VAA

There is no doubt that the loss of a close friend or family member can be one of the most challenging and stressful times in anyone’s life. What many people don’t realise, (until they have to deal with it themselves), is that there are an enormous number of tasks that need to be attended to when a family member has passed, particularly if you are named as an executor of the estate.

An executor is the person, or people, who is nominated to manage the deceased’s estate. It’s a role that can require a great deal of diplomacy and patience, particularly when family members have different opinions on what should or should not be done with the deceased’s belongings, even if there is a formal will in place. Of course, it gets even more complicated if the deceased did not leave a formal will.

One way of reducing the stress of being an executor is to have an independent Advocate acting on behalf of all of the beneficiaries in the sale of any property that is part of the estate. After all, an executor already has plenty of work to do without worrying about preparing the property for sale, addressing any presentation issues, selecting the right agent to handle the sale and the best marketing campaign and ensuring all negotiations are handled in the best interests of all the beneficiaries.

Our team at Ian Reid Vendor Advocates are ideally placed to provide experienced and independent advice so that there are no concerns about a conflict of interest, as can sometimes happen when a member of the family is asked to play a key role in the sale.

Many families find it beneficial to simply hand over the keys to Ian Reid Vendor Advocates, leaving the responsibility with us to get all the details sorted without any disagreements over who is doing what, and when.

If you are looking for some experienced, objective property advice that won’t cost one extra cent, why not give one of our understanding Customer Service team a call on 9430 0000 today.
