get your pool ready

Is your pool ready for Summer?

Author: Ben Reid - Manager VAA

Do you have a swimming pool at home, or you are considering buying a property that has one? The slow but steady increase in temperatures recently is a timely reminder that if you want to make use of your watery assets this Summer, now is the time to ensure that any concerns about pool safety are taken care.

All Australian swimming pool owners are legally obliged to follow pool safety regulations. These rules play a key role in reducing the number of Australians, particularly young children, who lose their lives through unattended access to backyard pools.

Does your home comply with Pool Safety laws?

Clearly, it is important to ensure that your pool is compliant with the current laws, including having your pool fence installed and maintained by a professional. However, if you are unsure about whether you pool complies with the pool safety regulations in your area, the Royal Life Saving Society provides a Pool Safety app which features an interactive checklist for your swimming pool.

There’s an App for that

This pool safety app covers topics like the swimming pool gate and fencing; the general area around the swimming pool fence; supervision of children; emergency preparation; pool pumps, grates and suction; pool chemicals and safety with electrical equipment.

Once you download this handy pool safety tool, you can use the checklist to identify any potential problems, take a photo and email a report. The app also allows you to get recommendations on how to your home pool safer.

If you’d like to know about the app, you can go direct to the Royal Life Saving Society’s web page by CLICKING HERE…

Whether you use the app or not, it is important that you don’t overlook pool fence safety and maintenance after months of non-use during winter. If in doubt, you can seek assistance from a private pool compliance certifier who is an expert in the field and who is qualified to perform any minor repair work that may be needed.

Safety when you sell

Of course, if you are planning a property you will need to get your pool safety issues addressed before signing a contract. You’ll also find lots of other helpful advice on protecting your family’s best interests in the process of selling in “FATAL REAL ESTATE TRAPS EXPOSED”, our free booklet which you can download from this website.
